I enjoy the cozy time that winter brings. Curling up with my cat in front of the woodstove, lighting candles, sipping hot cocoa, and doing indoor projects. My activities in the winter are much different than how I spend my free time during the warmer months when I stay out doing yard work until it gets dark. Even though it tends to bet wet outside this time of year, inside our homes tends to be dry due to heating. Our skin and hair can be effected by this dryness and often we need to make adjustments in our skin and hair care routines in order to keep it looking and feeling healthy. Here are some simple tips that hopefully you'll find helpful.
- Keep an intensive moisturizer by your bedside and apply to hands every night.
- Apply a hand cream throughout the day. Keep some by the kitchen sink.
- It may be helpful to switch to a cream based facial cleanser, like a cleansing milk.
- Your skin may need a richer moisturizer, especially at night.
- Try applying a very small amount of coconut or jojoba oil to the ends of your hair.
- Use a deep conditioner in your hair weekly.
- Use a hair product for shine. Shiny hair looks like healthy hair.
- If you blow dry, make sure you use a product to protect from the heat.
- Use a gentle facial exfoliant 1- 2x per week
- Use moisturizer on your face both day and night
- Exfoliate your body once a week with scrubby mitts or a body scrub product
- Sleep with a humidifier on in your bedroom
- Avoid super hot showers. Drink tea to warm up instead.
