Sara-ann first opened the Beauty Temple in 2003 after feeling burnt out and disenchanted with certain aspects of the hair industry. Her career began at a high-end salon on the infamous Newbury Street in Boston when she was just 21. The overstimulating atmosphere and the serious lack of self-care among stylists led her to believe she had chosen the wrong career, prompting her to leave it behind.
In search of what came next, she transformed her minivan into a home base and traveled across the country. Six months of simplistic living, meeting new people, exploring new places, and enjoying plenty of time for solo reflection was a true gift. This freedom to see what unfolded each day—depending on her interactions and inner guidance—eventually led her to Olympia, WA.
Sara-ann missed the one-on-one time spent nurturing, connecting with clients and the creativity of being a hairdresser. For a short time, she worked at Jamie Lee & Company salon, where she had the freedom to develop her unique approach and carve out her niche. Soon after, an opportunity arose to create a small home studio on the west side of Olympia, marking the inception of the Beauty Temple.
Over the years, with each move, she seized the opportunity to recreate the atmosphere of the Beauty Temple in a new space while deepening her understanding of what made the Beauty Temple so unique from conventional salons. Working from home was something Sara-ann cherished, and wasn’t willing to give up that lifestyle. However, in February 2024, everything changed. During an introspective writing exercise, she unexpectedly gained full clarity that it was time to let go of her personal comfort and convenience of being home-based to expand her positive impact on the community and beyond.
The current location synchronistically showed up just a year later in February of 2025. Sara-ann and Brandy, originally gym buddies, worked hard to get the current location opened in June 2025 to Sara-ann's long-time clients. Gisella, a long time client of Sara-ann's, started hands on training with her in the fall of 2025 and starts her official schooling in mid 2026. Blaire, started offering skincare services in December 2025; and Nina magically showed up in May of 2026. The Beauty Temple team is now fully assembled and passionately working together to bring this shared vision into full expression. ✨
